January 10th, 2019

Dear Friends:

Thank you for your continued support of the Richmond Police Department K-9 Unit through Friends of Richmond K-9.  We are looking forward to our 2019 events and send an extra thank you to our returning and new sponsors.

2018 was a year of many changes for our organization, the most difficult being the loss of our cherished friend, colleague, and board member, retired K-9 Officer Harry Pherson. Harry brought a wealth of knowledge and passion for working dogs and their handlers to our organization, as well as fantastic photography skills, and he will be greatly missed. Harry as left Friends of Richmond K-9 and the Richmond Police Department K-9 Unit a wonderful legacy that we will strive to be good stewards of as we move into 2019.

This year, we are excited to announce our 5th annual 5k for K-9’s will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 in memory of Harry Pherson. We plan on making the Harry Pherson Memorial 5k for K-9’s our most successful event to date and we hope you will join us! Information on the event and links to register and or donate are on the both the Events page and Sponsorship Opportunities page of our website. Friends of Richmond K-9 also has plans in the works to host a training summit for the Richmond Police Department K-9 Unit and any other interested agencies in the Richmond metro area, so stay tuned for more information regarding registration and sponsorship opportunities! As 2019 progresses, we will update the website and our social media with other events.

A huge thank you must be given to all of our Board Members and volunteers work many long hours for no compensation to support Friends of Richmond K-9 and the K-9 Unit.  All monies raised aid the Richmond Police Department K-9 Unit with training and supplies not covered in the Richmond City budget. We also help our retired K-9’s with food and medicine, as well as emergency veterinarian needs.

2019 promises to be another exciting year for Friends of Richmond K-9 and we thank you for being a part of supporting the hard working dogs and officers of the Richmond K-9 Unit.
